New Build on Philip Street

In 2018/19 SCHA built a new very energy efficient building - 99 Philip Street - adjacent to the existing terraced houses managed by the Coop. This contains three one bedroom apartments for its older members. Bristol City Council supported the project by leasing the land to SCHA on favourable terms for a period of 50 years.
This new building features very high levels of insulation, a 10kW photovoltaic array on the roof, a solar assisted air source heat pump to provide hot water and mechanical ventilation with heat recovery. It has shared facilities including a bike store, laundry and visitors bedroom. It was designed by architect Taus Larsen and built by sustainable building specialist Earthwise Construction.

The building was opened in June 2019 by the then Bristol City Council, cabinet member for housing, Paul Smith.
